Round Island, Bristol Bay
A puffin stretches its stubby wings as it prepares to take off from its rocky perch high on an island cliff.. Puffins have been described as the bumble bee of birds as such that its not really suited to fly, and are actually not supposed to fly given their wing size compared to their body size and weight.
In this image the wings and body size are shown in clear proportion to each other.  And like the bumble bee, the puffin does defy gravity and fly.  Though it is a much better swimmer  and spends much of its time under water chasing bait fish on which it feeds.
